A Guide to Gender Fair Counseling for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

This guide was developed by the NSF-funded Counseling for Gender Equity Project and is intended for K-12 school counselors, teachers and administrators. The project focused on equitable counseling practices for girls relating to the STEM disciplines. The field-tested guide includes chapters on Strategies for Bias-Free Counseling, Understanding the Importance of Technology, a School Climate Environmental Checklist, Preventing Harassment, Promoting Respect Action List for Counselors, Teachers as Partners, The Role of Parents, and Model Intervention and Support Programs: Pre-program questionnaire, post-program questionnaire. The project was based on the authorsí awareness that counselors can be leaders in their schools and they can inform teachers and administrators about ways to implement reform and change.
